Xiaojun Zeng

Postdoctoral Researcher

Xiaojun Zeng received his Phd from Donghuan university in 2018 where he worked with Professor Bo Xu focusing on the development of gold catalyzedhalogenation reaction.In 2019, he joined the Liu lab as a postdoctoral researcher and has been working on the method development for difluoromethylations. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music and watching basketball.

Matthew Paeth

Third Year Graduate

Matt Paeth received his BS from Ripon College where he worked with Professor Patrick Willoughby developing a method for synthesizing N,O-Acetals from N-acylphthalimides and aldehydes. He joined
the Liu lab in 2017 and has been working on new copper chemistry. Outside of his free time he enjoys going to the gym, fishing, hiking, and watching football.

 Yan Wenhao

Yan Wenhao received his BS from East China University of Science&Technology where he worked with Professor Zou Lei exploring supramolecular assembly. He joined the Liu lab in 2019 and was prepared to working on copper chemistry. In his free time, Wenhao enjoys watching films, playing video card games and going to the supermarket.

William Carson

Third Year Undergraduate

William Carson is currently a first-year undergraduate student at Miami University studying chemistry and math. He joined Dr. Wei Liu's lab in the fall of 2017 and has been working on the development of novel C-H activation methods for organic synthesis. Outside of the lab, William enjoys hackysacking, running, and hiking.

Elizabeth Hale

Fourth Year Undergraduate

Elizabeth Hale is an undergraduate student majoring in Biology with co-majors in Pre-Medical studies and Neuroscience. She joined the Liu lab in 2017 and has been working on development of novel materials for energy catalysis. Elizabeth is minoring in dance, so outside of the lab she spends most of her time in the dance studio. She holds positions on the executive boards of Dance Theatre and a STEM organization that focuses on motivating children to explore careers in STEM fields. In the future, Elizabeth hopes to attend medical school.

Jenn Peters

Fourth Year Undergraduate

Jenn Peters is an undergraduate studying biochemistry. She joined the Liu lab in 2017 and is working on novel ways to functionalize molecules through the breaking strong carbon hydrogen bonds. Outside of lab she likes to run, play soccer, and read.

Samson Zacate is an undergraduate studying chemistry. He joined the Liu Lab in 2017 and has been working on the area of energy catalysis.  Some of Samson’s hobbies include rock climbing, soccer, and playing piano.

Sam Tyndall

Third Year Undergraduate


Sam Tyndall is an undergraduate studying chemistry. He joined the Liu Lab in 2017 and has been working on the areas of porphyrin production and kinetics studies. His hobbies include soccer, basketball, and is a Sustainability scholar.

Fourth Year Undergraduate

Tony Durgham is a third-year undergraduate majoring in Chemistry. He joined the Liu lab in the spring of 2018, and is currently working on functionalizing C-H bonds using electrochemistry. Outside of the lab, he is involved in medical research and volunteers at the local hospital. He enjoys playing and watching sports, and one day hopes to attend medical school.

Kaitlyn Flynn is a second year undergraduate student at Miami University studying Chemistry. She joined the Liu lab in 2018 and is working on functionalizing C-H bonds with difluoromethylation. Her hobbies outside of lab include photography, broomball, and hiking.
