Wei completed his undergraduate studies at Peking University in 2008 and then pursued his Ph.D. at Princeton University under the supervision of Prof. John T. Groves, where he investigated metalloporphyrin-catalyzed CāH halogenation reactions. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Chris Chang at UC Berkeley.
Wei began his independent career in 2017 at Miami University, moved to the University of Cincinnati in 2020, and is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech. Research in the Liu Lab focuses on understanding the reactivity of metal complexes at unusually high oxidation states and harnessing these species to tackle long-standing challenges in organic synthesis and biomedical studies
